Regarding the H2;

AM General LLC is simply one of thousands of GM suppliers. In the case of the H2, GM's "supplier contract" called for their SUV & SUT H2's to be "assembled" by a company named AM General LLC until the year 2009 at a rate up to 40,000 units per year.

Look at the H2 this way: GM designed it; certifies it; markets it through GM’s dealer network; warrants it; owns all the tooling; buys every single part to build it through their vast supplier network and then has them all drop-shipped to another of their suppliers (AM General) to further assemble GM's parts.

GM had argued with the DOT, NHTSA & EPA from day 1 that the H2 was a GM vehicle that was simply "assembled" by one of their suppliers (AM General) from 100% GM parts. Apparently it took GM over a year to cut through all the red tape and finally convince DOT & NHTA & EPA that the H2 is in fact a GM vehicle.
