I too have the Garmin V, and yes it is at times hard to read, I find that in dayligt I adjust the backlighting brightness all the way up, and it helps a little.
A PC (laptop, or PDA) is the only thing that I am aware of that the unit will interface with. Not a very handy solution in a moving vehicle.
Maybe some one else out there has more info.
