I have the XTC light bar on my truck (installed by offroad shop).
I want to wire in additional lights for the rear (not XTC).

Does anyone know if I can tap into the harness on top of the truck or do I have to run wires to the switch for the rear?

I have the front and rear XTC light bars on my H2. You can not tap into the front light bar. The wire size and relay was designed for the front lights only. I ran additional wires down the driver side post and connected it to a second relay and used the 3 way switch that XTC supplied for the light bars.

If you have the "real" XTC light bar the wiring harness CAME with two relays. The second relay is just for what you want to do.

Me too drmiles.
I have Dennis helping Me but, I'm like You what the heck is the relay for. Why can't You just run heavy gauge wire from a hot post to lights in series and run wire to back with those lights in series and have an on off switch for front and for back tied to ground. Just be sure you have fuse to handle amps and heavy enough wire. Man I feel stupid and I have wired a ton of stuff on farm equip. like extra lights and never used relays so i do not understand the idea behind it dr. I even had electronics in high school but I guess i forgot everything i learned. I know Phil, Ken, DRTY, Klaus, Jonahs, or Dennis can explain this to Us. So lets just stick together that way at least We have 2 dummies here and do not feel alone.

Is the second relay attached to the first or wiring harness. If not then probably got discarded. If I were to look for the relay what the h@%% would it look like?

If it was installed per XTC instructions the two relays should be mounted right under the edge of dashboard driver side. About where your knees would hit. The rest of the harness & connectors should be inside the fuse box on the drivers side end of the dash. The extra relay is an integral part of the harness and I can't imagine them discarding it. If it's original XTC install the switch should be a three position rocker switch. Off & one of two components.

Good question. There's many reasons for relays depending on the task. But here's a simple one that applies. The switches we generally use are very small & just won't handle the current long term without burning up, welding contacts, etc.
If you want to install a large enough switch, no relay works fine.

Great Thanks for the info, I should be able to run the wires from the new lights on the back, down to the relay and then to the XTC switch. Should be easy will try this weekend.

Thanks again, its great to be able to get information on the project your about to attempt before you get everything torn apart.

Just to the relay jerry. If you have the relays it should be hot from the switch so you'll only have to run the wires from the new light to connectors in the fuse box area mentioned above. Did you find the relays?? I think I still have the wiring diagram & if need be I could post it or email it.

TAZ

Your "custom" wiring diagram has been emailed or I gave you a link to download it. Check your PM. Tomorrow I'll also fax you the xtc install instructions that will be helpful on taking your H2 apart. For the switch location go to my previous post http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/t...101#7051092101

I like Your rocker switch. It looks like it would be factory even though it came with kit. Is it possible that You have seen that same switch somewhere so I can get one like it. Have looked at many but they look like add ons but Yours doesn't.

I've not seen it anywhere either TAZ but I haven't looked. It's a nice little switch. I'll bet if you call Clarence at G-Style he can get a replacement xtc switch for you or tell you where to get one. That's what I'd do.
