Re: H3 tie rods do break
ETD, what were you doing that ending up breaking the tie rod? I'm just wondering so hopefully I could avoid such a situation.
Thanks,
Michael

[/smartassansweron]he was 4wheeling, want to avoid it, don't wheel.[/smartassansweroff]
Seriously, if you wheel, you will eventually break something and the tierods really look like the weak point in the front end (documented diff troubles excluded), so having a spare on board is relatively cheap insurance.

Luckily it was not my vehicle that broke one and that I had an extra with me for the repair. As for how, as a buddy says, " Worry about the part of the trail that LOOKS easy, that's where you are gonna get stuck (I did) and where you are gonna break something (the other H3 did)". The actual mechanics is as on the thread referenced above by Westhillsat. Exactly as that! As for where, it was on the "flat" part of an obstacle where the guide in the white Jeep is sitting in the photo. That red H3 was about 5 minutes from a big surprise .
If you go off road, get a spare. DO NOW .

Re: H3 tie rods do break
Ok, this might be a stupid question but don't want to miss anything not being a mechanic. Looking at getting a spare tie rod from All Discount, what should I order? Looking to get what I need before Tellico. Figure if I don't get it I will need it and if I get it, I will never have a breakage

Re: H3 tie rods do break
I carried both inner & outer tie rod pieces. The piece that broke on the other H3 was the inner piece. Get both. When I go out next time I will be bringing 3 sets just in case!
