Re: Rubicon 7/21-23
what does time of year have to do with it? Who's cranky steve? lol
has anybody taken a 2 down the rubi? i did read one jeeper site that mentioned that in a cuople spots long wheelbase vehicles might have some trouble with tight turns.
i figure i can have my truck re-painted once a year and not worry about it too much, but that might be where i draw the line.

Re: Rubicon 7/21-23
Well, with a late snow melt, and with the amount of snow this year, the trail is really rough. Large amounts of snow tend to act like glaciers, and move rocks into the trail. It's not until about 10,000 people have gone through the trail that allot of it gets moved.
It can be easier later in the year. CAN BE.

Funny how 3bies think like that.
Better bring 3-4 cases of bug spray or the skeeters will drain you dry.

Drty has been to spider and back via Loon
IMO, long wheelbase is better, so what if you have to back up to make a tight turn.

Bully, no shame in letting someone else spot your wife or you, if you know what I mean!
Sorry I can't make the trip, you will all have a blast!

Re: Rubicon 7/21-23
Here are some suggestions from Scotte:
Going in through the Loon Lake entrance, and driving up to Ellis. Camping there Friday Night....heading out to Rubicon Springs, camping there Saturday night, and then out to Homewood.
Quote:
Directions:
Take the Ice House Road \Crystal Basin exit off Hwy 50 about 20 miles east of Placerville. Follow Icehouse Road for approximately 28 miles until you hit the Loon Lake road which goes to the right. Follow it about another 4 miles until you cross the second Loon Lake dam, which puts you at what is called the spillway. You are now at the start of the Rubicon.
