Re: Update:Driver Seat wear
Very hard for a dealer to get reimbursed for a seat cover replacement without using OEM parts. GM did do some revising to the leather seats a year ago, going with a different cut (not sure something about cut with grain or against grain...I only eat steers, I don't know a thing about leather).
Many dealers will send the vehicle to a trim shop for the OEM seat cover replacement since they do not like screwing around with hog rings, j-strips, etc. The seat cover replacement labor operation allows for sublet repair to a repair shop.
Be curious if H3 owners have the same problem; they are supposed to have the new and improved "some type of grain cut" leather. I have 15K and the driver seat looks good. A little crinkling on the outer edge, which is vinyl, but the leather inserts still look good.

I would wonder that too. Really seems like a problem GM should address.

Re: Update:Driver Seat wear
All manufacturers operate the same way. Warranty is paid on replacement OEM parts, unless the service or parts are not available. For example, windshield replacements can be done without factory replacement windshields and are usually done with an outside supplier.

Re: Update:Driver Seat wear
I have an 06 with 11k miles, black leather, and the drivers side is getting the cracks on it like you all are describing. I am very carefull to pick myself up getting in and out, so I don't know why it's so bad. I'm surprised they'd replace it under warranty, but based on what i've read here, i'll take it in to the dealer and try.
