Re: Rocker Panel Rock Rails
Here's a couple shots of Babhumv's prototype rails from Rocky Road Outfitters. We didn't test them too hard this week but they feel pretty solid and I like how they stick out farther than the OEM ones. Only a couple design issues that I personally would like to see fixed before they hit market.

They only used 3 supports instead of four. The fourth set of holes on the frame rail were covered by a label so I'm guessing they missed them. Still very solid, but if the holes are there, might as well put a support there.
Also, one of the cables for the parking brake was run under one of the supports.

Re: Rocker Panel Rock Rails
When I was in South Bend, Manny told me that Amstar products were developed because the factory protection, even the upgraded stuff, wasn't holding up on the AM General test track. So I'd put my money on the Ambest, whenever it becomes available.

Re: Rocker Panel Rock Rails
Amstar/Starcraftparts - So far, what they have on their website is very pricey!

Are the ones on the Amstar site even true rockrails. They just look like tubesteps with modified brackets so they sit closer to the rocker panel.
I actually really like the Rocky Road ones and will probably buy a set when I finish destroying my OEM ones if there is nothing better on the market. There's just those two items I think should be addressed.

Re: Rocker Panel Rock Rails
Sewie do you think the Rocky-Road rocker protection could be used for a step also. I am looking for rocker panel protection, but my fience is constantly complaining about it being so hard for her to get in, so I thought I might could kill two birds with one stone. Let me know what you think.
Thanks
Tanner

I don't think what is pictured for "Rocker Panel Protection" is supposed to be highlighting the step looking object. I think we're supposed to be looking at something else, but I can't figure out what. I know the "Shock/Axle Skidplates" are pretty HD looking in person, because I remember laying under this vehicle and looking at them. I don't remember the rocker protection however.

Have you talked to them about the forth set of support brackets?? I ordered a set yesterday and talked with one of there sales guys briefly but he didn't know what I was talking about exactly but said he would pass on the info.

Yes, I emailed Glenn at RR about it. He didn't mention why it was left off but I'm guessing they just didn't see the holes. They were covered by a label on the frame.
He did say they tested it as is and saw no flex. But he didn't say whether or not they would add the fourth support in the future.

I know when I put the OEM rock rails on my H3... I had to peel away the labels on both sides... Otherwise you wouldn't even see the holes...

I am thinking about ordering the Rocky Road "Rails" and was wondering if I would have to do any drilling in the frame or if all the holes line up? What would you say the difficulty in installing them are?
Thanks Gary in KY
