Re: Help please:Gurus,Experts,Messiahs
I've been watching this as I've been helping out a friend to find one. I believe they are going up. If you watch Ebay, there are lots of bids starting earlier than they used to and are going higher. Many comparable H1's to the one I bought 2 years ago are going for more now. Many are getting good deals on the '06, but a lot of us are skeptical of the Alpha because it was only in production for 1 year and it is more difficult to get parts (somewhere other than AMG), and they are expensive. You also have to consider maintenance and service issues--it's not easy to find good techs who can work on the Alpha. I know owners who drive a long way to get their Alpha worked on. If you are not going to take it off-road and keep the miles low, then this many not be an issue for you. If money is not an issue, then by all means get the Alpha. It is very impressive.

Re: Help please:Gurus,Experts,Messiahs
My assumption is that H1's will gain in value. There are only about 12,000 in existence. I'd think they might be like the Defenders which are now usually worth quite a bit in good shape.
But for prices to go up, you'd have to increase the demand. If demand stays level or falls, only a decrease in the number of H1's available would keep prices steady or cause them to rise.

You know, they're supposed be coming out with a U.S. version of the Defender in the next year or two. It will be built off the LR3 / RR Sport platform, but it just won't be the same. My guess is they'll eventually do the same with a GM version of the H1.

Prices will go up for all model years from 2002 and back (especially for those guys who have 2 and 4 door hardtops and the infamous slantback )... 2003's and newer ones still have a ways to come down ...

I've heard musings about a new Defender for a while. Nothing lately however (November 2004 is the latest I've heard about it). It would definately help augment LR sales, since they really don't move many vehicles each year. The LR2 will probably help them out a little bit. But I haven't heard anything beyond rumors of Defender's return to the States. Looks whimpy though. I'd rather have a current Defender or Hummer. Sorry for the off-topic-ness.
