I like the omni-stalk. I think it keeps everything simple. There's nothing I hate more than a thousand stalks coming out of the steering column.

Re: 2006 H3- Four Wheeler Longterm test
Two stalks are less confusing and better. And upshift lights at the expense of annoying the customer is a bad choice, I don't care what the excuses from GM are. These are minor details that the competition often handles better. But going forward (instead of looking back) these details can be easily fixed. And the H3 gets more right than wrong in its design details.

Lots of stalks would make it look like a cold-war spy trawler...

Re: 2006 H3- Four Wheeler Longterm test
If anything, this proves you cannot satisfy everyone, all the time.
Shift light....it is not only on GM's, my Jeep had the light until I removed the bulb. This CAFE credit goes to all, and most likely the manufacturers that make large gas guzzling vehicles like GM/Ford and Chrysler made use of the credit.
Stalk mounted cruise....for those familiar with GM vehicles, it has been on the stalk for quite a few years, and if you moved it, they would be peed off. I prefer it on the stalk, and when I had the Jeep, the steering wheel control confused me. Saturn had many complaints, and still does, in regard to cruise on the wheel. It may change, but no matter where you put it, some will complain, at least until they get used to the location.
Cubby holes...depends on your previous vehicle. My jeep also didn't have anymore space up front than the H3, and the door slots had slots in them. Great for cleaning and letting water out, but terrible for keeping gas receipts that used to fall through the slots when I opened the door.

Re: 2006 H3- Four Wheeler Longterm test
I would not trade my H3 for anything (except a 2007 5 speed adventure in the orange that is only available on the bling version). but the two biggest gripes are the do everything stalk, I like the cruise control on the wheel, and the location of the fog lights (should be located beside the off road roof lights). All those little bttons around the head light knob are hard to find and nearly impossible to see at night.
I love the looks, the power I have got used to. I think with another year or two of tweaking they will have it perfect. I am looking forward to the SLUT version, I mean the SUT version.

So, someone else is pissed that the orange is only on the bling model? Write Hummer marketing, I have a few times. I want that color, but not with bling.
As for the H3 SUT, please don't hold your breath, it ain't gonna happen.

Re: 2006 H3- Four Wheeler Longterm test
I guess everyone has their own preferences. The shift light on my blazer used to bother me, but I learned to ignore it a long time ago so the H3's doesn't bother me.
And I like the single control stalk. My 4runner had a separate windshield washer lever, which was ok, but there was a 3rd lever attached to the wheel for cruise control and I hated it. It turned with the wheel and I kept hitting it, especially bouncing around offroad. I'm glad to be back to the GM style.
