Re: upgrading battery
My battery died again and I pulled it. There is no way I am going to replace it with something as small as what was in there...
Searched this thread up. Anyone recall how Paragon got 2 in his rig?
Did he stack one on top of his fuse bay?

Re: upgrading battery
Paragon had an H2. Now that the aussies have 3's to play with, they are trying to fit two batteries in there too.

Re: upgrading battery
So now my question would be do you go with the red top or the yellow top if you are running off road lights and a winch in the future.

Re: upgrading battery
I'd like a new battery too. Optima battery, but which one is better yellow or red and are you saying they dont fit in the hummer's cooling box without modifying it first?

Re: upgrading battery
Best thing to do is discard that box and get a good rv deep cycle that fits the tray under the plastic box and go with that...

Re: upgrading battery
I did some battery research.
As I understand it:
The Optima batteries are virtually indestructable, super-powered, long-lasting fast-charging, cutting edge spiral cell technology automotive batteries. The closest competitor using the same technology(spiral/leakproof/antivibration/etc) is Exide Tech's Select Orbital battery.
Exide batteries
The Exide battery is a Select Orbital and has 690CCA, 850CA and for the H3 the model# is ORB75DT-84. The dimensions are L 9-1/16" W 6-7/8" H 8-13/16
Lowest online price found was $114.95+shipping $20.00+ depending where you live @ remybattery.com
Optima Batteries
The Red Top battery is an SLI (starting, lights and ignition) battery to be used solely for starting applications.
The redtop that comes closest to fitting the H3 is Model 25 Size Category: Med-Small L9.25 x W6.3 x H7.7" Height includes 1" terminals It features 720CCA and 910CA Lowest online price found was $149.95 w/free shipping @1st-optima-batteries.com
The Yellow Top battery is a deep cycle battery for traction applications, such as winches, wheelchairs and similar electrical vehicles or for heavy duty starting of engines with a higher drain on the battery.
The yellowtop that comes closest to fitting the H3 is Model D75/25 Size Category: Med-Small L9.25 x W6.7 x H7.8" Height includes 1" terminals It features 650CCA and 810CA Lowest online price found was $172.95 w/free shipping @1st-optima-batteries.com
The Blue Top battery is a combination starter and deep cycle battery specially adapted for the marine environment.
So Red is Basic everyday daily driver use
Yellow is for offroaders/customzers with winches, lightbars, mega-amped sound systems that wanna run things with the engine off
Blue is if youre converting your H3 into a sealed submersible vehicle and are planning to storm the shores of some distant foreign land.
In the end...
The Exide battery with slightly lower amps may be the better bet as far as Price, Fit & Finish go
The Optima's if you want the added power, but be prepared to retro-fit your cooling box to make it work/look good.

Re: upgrading battery
What is the warrenty on the original battery? (can't find my book)
This morning wouldn't start, got a jump and all ok...went to breakfast and after, it started but with a little ump...!!!
ABS light came on, Traction Control light came on, A/C stopped working....got home Ok, just a little warm with no A/C, called ONSTAR, the sweet young thing had to pass me off to a TECH who said:
it could be the battery
it could be a short in a wiring harness
it could be the alt
it could be a computer problem
it could be a combination of problems
it could be a could be...
If I knew for sure the battery is not covered I would pull it and just get a ride to AUTOZONE or PEPBOYS or NAPA or SEARS or SUPER WALMART or somewhere, have it checked and
WAM BAM THANK YOU MAMe !!!
Any ideas, I have around 35000 miles, very very little off road, no winch, no moon roof, no frig ...etc
only have my OOOGAH HORN and the trailer package (but no trailer)
