Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
I was told by A.I. that the only online dealer that they support is the one that I posted earlier. I got mine from an online dealer that was not supported. I was going to return it but A.I. knew that I was going to write up my install and they said not to return it and they would hook me up with the newer firmware. I forgot to mention that I bought one from two different online dealers both sold me very old versions. And that is why A.I. won’t support them. Apparently when a distributor goes out of business the stock sit around and get sold off at cents on the dollar. And we get to find all these great bargains. Not so great if you were me getting two Ver.4-55-008, when the new version is 5-30-00. A lot of bugs were fixed in that time frame. So I would say buy from other online dealers at you own risk. It also good to know that the last few update were made for the new vetts so if you find one in the VER 5.0 range there just as good.
Yes you can use the Nav and the iPod at the same time. And if your on your Nav screen and the song changes or you change the song a small banner pops up and shows you the artist, song and track number.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
Thanks for the info.
I spoke with A.I. today, and they confirmed: you need version 5.3 or higher. They do put a label on the unit showing the version, although it may not be visible until you open the package.
I agree with you, bargain hunting, and possibly ending up with an older firmware version, is NOT the way to go.
I have 2 units on the way with the latest firmware.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
We just installed a couple of these today @ local chevy dealer and they do work well. If you don't have xm, the readio will need to come out to access that plug. No video output on this unit.

Video output for the IPOD video would be nice addition.

Nice write up. I haven't checked out their web site yet, but do you know offhand if it would work with a Panasonic Z1 Nav unit?

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
Great post. I think even i could install that. So, I just ordered one.
However, how do you switch between the ipod, XM and AUX using the screen or the steering wheel? Not sure how that works.
Thanks for this great product.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
The Nucleus iPod Adapter "shares" the XM1 band. You will use the "band" button to select AM/FM/XM etc as usual. When you select XM1, the first (#1) preset button then becomes a "toggle" button to let you select XM, iPod, or Aux.
The unit works great, but there is a small learning curve. The key is to understand that your six "preset" buttons now have a "function". The instruction manual for the Nucleaus refers to them as Button #1, Button#2, etc. It is not too difficult to learn.
The only confusion is what these preset buttons are labelled. If you use XM and have used these six buttons for preset stations, then they will be labelled as the XM station, EVEN WHEN USING THE ipod adapter. You just need to know that they are Button #1 thru button#6.
I took the opposite approach. I don't care to see the station label for my preset XM stations, instead I have the buttons labelled for the Nucleus iPod functions. The "trick" was to import a CD into iTunes that I didn't need, then CHANGE THE SONG NAME FOR SIX OF THEM. I named
the "songs": "iPod/XM/AUX", "BLANK#2","R_SCROLL","F_SCROLL","SELECT" and "CHOICES". When "playing" this album thru the iPod adapater, I played each of those "songs" and then pressed and held the preset buttons. They are now labelled appropriately for the Ipod adpater functions!
Good Luck and have fun. I think it is the best unit out there. Not perfect, but worth it.

Not sure. You can call American International/Nucleus and talk to their tech department: www.americaninternational.net

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
I gave up and installed the Pioner AVIC-D3 with iPod adapter. The ipod interface is outstanding, which was my number one goal.
The installation and hookup does have it's technical issues as is noted on other threads here and on AVIC411.com (Onstar retention, chimes, RAP, steering wheel control, Onstar volume, VSS,etc.). Thus it is not comparable with the quick and easy install (and removal ) of the Nucleus unit.
Good luck to all, I hope A.I. can fix the bug!

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
I just called myself and talked with Keith (A tech i assume)
He says there are a few units out there with the same problem some of us are experiencing and that they are still looking for the fix.
He suggested i call every so often to see if they have something completed. He also gave me his email address so we could keep in touch that way.
I suggest that if you are having the same problems we all keep calling to light a fire under there butts and get this bug fixed.

Re: Ultimate iPod adaptor and 10Min install
Called them again ( 1-800-336-6500 ext 513 ) and was advised its going to be about 6-7 more days for the fix. It appears they have most of it handled according to their tech guys.
If i call back in a week and hear this same line, i am going to snap.
