14.5 MPG's!!!
Just completed the break in trip for the '07 after putting 93K on my '03. Took a road trip to Crested Butte and used the miles to do some testing on the gas mileage. Surprisingly, we actually found the sweet spot in the winding roads betwees Santa Fe and Gunnison. During that stretch we averaged 65 MPH's and was consistently under 2K rpm's. Our mileage was 14.5 mpgs. Thought we had written something down incorrectly but reconfirmed it on the return trip.
Now that we have found the sweet spot I will have to retrain my foot if I want better mileage.
I can hardly wait to tell some of these people that I got 14 mpgs and watch them stammer. Of course I wont be able to keep up the average but we did seem to do a little better than my '03.

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I agree with you, the h2 does have a sweet spot. I get 16-17 mpg but I dont bother telling anyone either because no one beleives. I just got back from a trip to New Mexico myself. The trick is like you said, Keep it under 2000 rpm. a Power Programmer helps too.. with this I do about 75-80 mph

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I directly calculate the MPG using a full tank, reset the trip meter, and then fill the tank again (preferably at the same station and pump) and then use the gallons that go in to figure the MPG.
I find that the trip computer lies. Best I've ever gotten in the winter was just pushing 15 MPG on level interstate going 60MPH. I'm going to take a closer look this summer at the warm MPG. But if you're going downhill, with a tailwind, you'll probably get upwards of 17MPG. A programmer would definately help!

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
It works! I just did a quick trip to Pasadena and back (about 55 miles) and I ended up averaging 15.1 mpg by keeping it at 65 mph (2k rpm).

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I told you, Now try it with a power programmer, then you would be able to go 75 mph at 2500rpm. and you will average 16-17 mph. I tell you guys no lie....

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I was doing 15.5 mpg (full tank reset) yesterday until we hit traffic. This is the highest I have seen on my rig. Now the computer is at 12.7 mpg after half a tank.

I think at "16-17 mph" you might get that kind of mileage...

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I managed 16.2 (on the dash) for 60 miles on the highway. Going EXACTLY 60 without hitting any slow downs.
30 miles of city later it was 10.8.
It's possible to get good numbers, just not for any length of time in the city. (Or driving like you're under the age of 70).

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
If you guys are going to talk mileage, it should only be (x) miles / (x) gallons. Looking at the instant mileage readout isn't a true indicator of total mileage, but it's a useful tool for finding the so called "sweet spot".
No, not THAT "sweet spot"

Re: 14.5 MPG's!!!
I look at the average MPG. and for me, well,,, thats good enough. See we all have to buy gas and everyone that buys a hummer or knows about hummer knows that hummer is not the best in gas so we accept it when we buy and accept it when we go to the pump. I am pleased to see that I AVERAGE 16 mpg and I dont have to prove it to nobody.
