Re: Funny Recovery Effort
Because I am curious, would the following things be changed?
Back the Nissan in and attempt to pull in that manner or back the Nissan to the front of the Tahoe and pull him forward
Hi-Lift the back or front of the vehicle as necessary, and if so, how do you handle the jack when you move forward -- won't it go over?
Just curious about these things if I am ever in such a situation. Minus the Mexicans, meng.

If you used a high jack you'd fill in the hole with rocks or dirt and then lower the veicle before pulling.
Or they could have dug a trench behind the wheel. They also would have had to dig out the rear diferential. As it was if he had something that could have pulled it out of there without digging or jacking the rear of his truck would have looked simular to the car in the other video.
Hitches are not made to tow a vehicle that is stuck.

I am embarassed to admit that I never thought of jacking the vehicle up and filling in the hole before lowering it. Thanks for the insight. It's things like this that I hope to never have to use when offroading, but if I have to, it's better to know it than to end up like these guys.

No reason to be embarassed. Most people learn the hard way.

Re: Funny Recovery Effort
You can also jack up the truck and then pull/push the truck forward or backward off the jack. Just don't be near the jack.

That would be my fear. I have heard of other people dumb enough to try it. I'd be worried about the vehicle, too. These people were driving 20 year-old beaters though, so what's another ding?
