For $149, I'm not overly concerned with the price of the new PCM, but I've started getting the dreaded 'rough idle' that seems to be the precursor to the head problem. Any thoughts on whether updating my PCM would exacerbate the problem or cause it to kick off the check engine light sooner?

In my un educated guess, I would say DO NOT get the PCM update until your head problem has been fixed. You could loose your programming and have to pay another 50 bucks to get it reprogrammed, plus it would just be silly.

Oh yeah, if I'm not mistaken the PCM is now $199 not $149 unless you are getting a deal then I would be if I didn't get it too cause in am a so says west

Not so sure about that...

Shipping charges are cheap (except downtime on the rig ) I'm not too concerned about the potential reflash, more concerned if it will have an impact on the engine if there is a head problem.

No special deal, I didn't realize the price was $199, I'm 99% sure it was $149 some time back. At $199 it's a little harder to swallow, will have to think about it for awhile...

X2 on not doing it if a head problem is looming, I'd definately wait.
