The older 14mm inner/outer rods are being replaced with 16mm rods. If one (inner or outer) is replaced, the other must also be replaced.

So do you think my new rack came with 14mm or 16mm?

Chances are the new ones, but only way to tell would be to measure the diameter of the links, or see if there is an eight digit part number...outer - 15907712.
Now, I don't mind that the newer rods are larger, I also don't mind that if you replace one (either inner or outer) you have to replace the other. However, I am having a hard time locating the new rods for my trip.
To say I'm a bit peed at some people right now, is an understatement.
I should know more on Tuesday, when I return to work and have a long conversation with a parts' engineer.
