The driving situations are what changes your mpg. Fast stop and go, you would be lucky to get 12. But slow speeds have seemed to treat me well. I do not take the expressway to work. i had to take an alternative route due to construction, and I have not looked back. I travel 55 to 60, and the truck loves it. My best was 15.5 and that was 55 to 60mph along a 2 lane highway. My worst tank has been 10.5 and that was doing 80mph against a fair wind...10 to 15 mhp headwind....

I dont see big city driving getting better than 12.....

So far, my H2 gets that same fuel milage that my Jeep gets.... IMHO that says a lot, since my Jeep might weigh 3000 pounds, and has a straight six...

Inflate your tires to 60 psi. Sidewall says 50 is max inflation, so do 50 if it makes you feel better. You wont beleave the difference if you are currently running 35 psi and go to 60.

If you really want better milage you could lower the H2, and put on smaller street tires. I hear that can give up 3 MPG plus! But personally i think thats gay, like people that never take their H2 off road.

Like the guy with the jeep just said the H2 actually gets real good milage for what it is. Show me another vehicle that can get 12-13 mpg with a V8, 35's, and a weight similar to the H2.

Curious, what do you guys spend on fuel in your H2 per month? Im at about $1,000/month.

My H2 has always read "9.5 mpg" as an avg. before and after all my mods. Maybe I just have a heavy foot...

reset your milage. After you get so many miles on it, it makes the average hard to change....

On my 03 SUV I got about 11mpg, then I added a K&N Intake and it dropped to 9.5-10mpg, all city driving. My fully stock 05 SUT is getting a constant 11.5-12mpg. I do miss the K&N as it did add some pep but right now I am not messing with anything, I can live with 12mpg.

I rented a Dodge Ram 1500 down in New Orleans a few weeks ago, it averaged 9mpg so that made me feel A LOT better.

Here is my attitude this summer.
"They can raise the prices but they cant stop me from driving..." Thats how you have to look at it. I bitched and moaned last summer, I even went out and bought a VW Jetta for my daily commute, that lasted almost 2 months.

My insurance on the H2 is only like $60/month so that is another bonus. My old 01 Tahoe was $125/month. Then you can also look at resale value, the H2 is in a MUCH better spot that most full size SUV's.

If that is not enough, consider safety of you and your family. The H2 will keep you alive more often than most cars. I have had numerous encounters with drunk drivers coming at me head on, I am ready now.

In the end I think it boils down to driving habits. You really have to think. I have a tendency to punch the gas. There is a sweet spot just below where I usually drive the rpms and that really makes a difference. Another thought, coast more when approaching stop signs and lights. Breaking an old habit might get you another mpg or two.

You have a H2, just say screw it and enjoy it. I hated myself last summer for having a H2 but not this summer. $5/gallon wont stop me. At the end of the month you wont be up "that much more" than your neighbors in minivans and pickup trucks.
