taking the little antenna off seems to be pretty effective...it reduces the range of transmission and reception substaintaly...try and see

After reading some documentation on OnStar, if you disable and/or remove it... your vehicle is automatically reported stolen. You better be careful.

Source is OnStar. They told me the FCC was requiring the change at year end. Said you could go to dealer and have digital equipment installed. Can't remember cost---around$250---at that point I was listening anyway.
