Thanks for the tips! I like doing as much as I can on vehicles and with a H1 since they are built tough I see less breakdowns as you would on regualr built vehicles. My area makes it limited to locate one at a reasonable price but since I have the OK from the wife now I can really look! I've left my number with one of the dealerships but buying private I'd save on taxes up here.

Keep the info coming and I'll absorb like a sponge!

So I shouldn't get an older year than 98? I'm thinking the older ones might be easier to work on and less $$$. Should I stay away from lots of KMS. I would imagine you can get many many years out of them. My brother still has a 1986 F150 we use from time to time!

KMS?

My 1994 is a great truck. I think he just meant you can get a GMPP on newer trucks, which some people like (it's like a new vehicle warranty essentially).

On the 1994, there is one computer, and it controls the transmission, so it is easy to work on for sure. Runs great too for being 13 years old. Should go many more years with some TLC.

If you are looking for something specific, I can start looking for you. PM me. We ship worldwide, so I don't see it being a problem getting a truck to you in Canada.

Older is fine and Blue's is in good shape, basically the H1 requires alot of regular maintainence and as long as you will do some of the work yourself you will be fine. If you plan to go to the dealer every time it will cost you and you will feel like it is always in the shope.
1. get carfax
2. have the motor checked, some early H1's had block problems
3. get the desiel, the gas burner is a total pig
4. get to know the area dealer and meet the H1 service tech. He will be you best friend for problems and find out how to order parts direct from AM General.

I would say join the HML as well which is the ultimate source for all things H1 and HMMWV.

I'm looking for the wagon version. There are a few Turbo desiel ones but from what I've read there's engine issues. The regular would be fine for me anyway. The slantback would be my next choice. Rear storage is always a nice touch! I will work on as much as I can myself and I know someone who is a mechanic that can do work for me on the side.

I'll keep doing research and join more forums as well. Just wish there were more around. There's one I've seen in my area. Not sure on the year but is a grey wagon. I may just go up and see if they'd want to sell!!
