 I guess they come off easy enough,unless you have a 06 early build then they got the bolt behind holding them in .and would be difficult to get them off quick.

doesnt the spare tire have a lock nut? like i can swear i have a lock for the tire, and roofrail. maybe im wrong. But the rails came with a key i think, but i havent thought of that for almost a year. (my 3 is almost 1..in october) 5150miles, and going strong

Mine doesn't have a lock. I believe I've read that the '06 did have a lock though.
My buddies dad used to work for GM and his friends that still work there told him that someone were stealing the spare tires right out of the GM lot.
