A lot of people just sprayed coating over it to cover it up. It's ugly, but I don't think it's doing much damage. I have an 03 and it has NO RUST under it what so ever. I think it was aftermarket undercoted. Its all flat black and looks to be some kind of rubbery type of paint.

To my pleasant suprise my dealer got the factory to pay for a complete Ziebart undercoating. They applied some kind of rust eliminator and then applied rustproofing EVERYWHERE. The cost was only about $350.00 but still shocked me.
