Re: Best way to disable H2????
Thanks again for all the ideas and help. I'm going to look into the motel parking/cab idea.
We have cruised from this port three times before but never parked a "good" vehicle. We park in the huge pay lot across the street from the ship and our vehicle has been OK. Last trip though the parking lot used our credit card info (we paid for parking with it) to charge some things online with so we had to cancel the card and go through all that crap. Since that happened I figure if they will use credit card info why wouldn't they "turn thier heads" while a car theif got my Hummer - you know.
At any rate - the Hummer is insured to it's gills and I'm not going to spoil my vacation worrying about it. I plan to focus on: the wife, all those cocktails and the food!! In that exact order!!!

Re: Best way to disable H2????
If this is a concern, you ought to look into a tracking device. Several companies are making them now and show be around $650-$800 installed. Some devices require a monthly fee and with others you purchase "units" on how many times you check it within a period of time. The device allows you to remotely shut down your vehicle, indicate when a vehicle is getting broken into (by calling your cell), remotely lock you vehicle (in case you think you might have forgotten), as well as other things. Some used car dealerships are finding it more economical to install these rather than having to search everywhere for a defaulted vehicle.

The problem with using a tracking system in this situation is that someone has to report the vehicle missing before it can be tracked. By the time he gets back he might be able to find the tracking unit on a burro in TJ.

Yeah, I have heard of lenders putting these on cars, you don't pay, you don't drive. I find that hilarious. Now a deadbeat can get his cable shut off, cell phone turned off and his car privileges taken away. Talk about deadbeat rehab. I think that technology is great.
thanks

Re: Best way to disable H2????
The best way by far is to connect a switch that grounds the fuel pump or ignition circuit. If they try to start the H2 it will blow the fuse. THey may find the switch but then even if they flip it it wont start.
If they figure it all out, then they deserve the H2. I have done this on several vehicles and one (80's mustang) a theft was attempted and it worked like a charm.

Re: Best way to disable H2????
Great idea! Simple. General Rule of thumb...if it takes more than 30 seconds than they're outta there.
