Question About Rear Bumper Lights
With a good deal of help from Hucky (thanks, Guy) my rear bumper lights are ready to physically install. They have bulbs with 2 filaments, a bright one and a dimmer one. I assume that the dimmer one is for use as a park lamp. Could anyone with an '05 or better please let me know if the brighter one is for brake, turn or both and does this apply with park lamps (or headlights?) on AND off? I am trying to figure out the wiring and fear I may need diodes and relays to accomplish the factory functions. Thank you!

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
The rear bumper lights serve a dual purpose. They are running / tail lights and also serve as brake / turn signal lights.
I'd say you'd be able to tap into the factory harness above and be all set.
I think these were a good add on GM / Hummer's part as I often see people riding up close behind and it gives them a brake light at eye level for smaller cars.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
R U putting back up lights in? Or are you converting to the newer style rear bumper lights?
Maybe a link as to what light you purchased could "shed a little light" as to what you are trying to acomplish.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
Hes converting newer style lights into the end caps of the bumper just like the new models have. Using OEM Parts from Hummer
The Light sockets have 3 leads (wires) coming out of them.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
I'll see if I can get some pics of where the wires go to on my 07 if that would help. Would it?
I can tell you that those lights to act as running, stop, and turn.

Yes, Tim, that would help immensely. I can tap into my existing park lights for the park lamp (lo) function, no problem there. I am trying to figure out how to wire the turn and brake (hi) without backfeeding into the existing tail lamps. I have the amber turn signals on the tri-lights, so turn and brake are separate wires. I am concerned about hooking them both up to the new lamp as this would cause all the turn signals to light up when I put on the brakes and vice-versa. The bumper lights have 3 leads. +Hi, +lo & -ground. Thanks, in advance, for any and all help.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
I may have figured it out. I think if I don't connect a ground, it might work. If I connect one lead of the HI to the flashers and the other to the brake, it can pull ground through the non-working filaments. I will test and post. I wish I could say that I came up with this notion on my own, but I was inspired by something I read from Daniel stern. I was thinking about tapping into the marker lights, when I came upon this:

I think I have seen a trailer wiring kit, such as something that you can get a AutoZone etc... that will allow you to seperate the brake from turn functions.
I'll look to see if I can find it.

The "bitch is home". The wiring scheme that I was contemplating works like a charm. So now I have it all. Park, Brake and Turn all at the bumper! When I get a little time I will do a write up on the Installation. I hope my cell phone pix look okay. If not, I'll take pix with my pro camera when we do Hucky's.
If anyone is having a bumper light crisis and wants info before I write it up, please PM or ring me up. Once you know how to do it, this mod is a piece of cake.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
I've gotten it started, but I need a place where I can post text and pix. It's too big to e-mail. I tried. Anyone know a cheap way I can post it easily? Also, if anyone near So Cal wants to do it, now that I know what I'm doing, I could get great step by step photos. Hucky???

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
Oh, I think I get it now,??
Lets do my Rig with Pics from Scratch, correct?
I just need to decide if I want back up lights only or what you did, I just cant seem to decide what I want here.
But when we do it, yes I will or we can take pics of start to finish no worries.

Re: Question About Rear Bumper Lights
If you have it in Word with pictures you can convert it in PDF which makes it a size that can be emails usually...
