Sounds like it works almost identically to the Superchips programmer that I have, and am quite pleased with. The only pain is having to un-program it before going into the dealership, then reprogramming when you get the truck back.

Do you do this cause your under warrranty?
Sounds like a pain in the ass, but worth it for the warranty work.
Thanks
When you "unprogram" what is involved with that?

Re: Hypertech Max Energy Programmer
sort of off topic but not... Is it possible for me and another H2 buddy to buy a programmer and share it? Or are they designed for one car at a time only?

Re: Hypertech Max Energy Programmer
Handheld programmers will work with only one rig. You remove factory program and install new program which then identifies itself with your vin number.
You have to remove any tuning you have installed because if not when dealer hooks up computer it sees wrong une and over-writes it and you loose the custom tune. Some companies will allow a few times to send back the handheld and will put their tune back in it so you can start over. It is best even though a mess to unload put factory in and reload.
While in dealer they are also always doing upgrades to other computer systems and the factory tune needs to be there for many reasons.
To address sharing a tuning system, you cannot with handhelds. If you go to a laptop tuning program yes you can share a program with a little extra cost if it is still being done. I know my programs for 2003 and 2005 H2's i can tune any vin as I can with any 1999 Silverado's. I think HPTUNERS you can still do this with as that is what I use gotten from them as a sponsorship deal in early 2006. I have one goal left to reach for them and I get a full dealership to tune anything as much a I want. So later mid 2008 if within reasonable distance of Little Rock, AR. I will be able to tune for less than buying programmer but, downside is you do not have the box. I have other ideas but, have to work on a way so that you can pull my tune out and install factory for dealer trips. That will come. I could tune a completely factory bax so you could just unplug and swap them out.
The other option would be Nelson Performance who writes his owns tunes but, you send in your ecu and he ships it back so no better than I could except have 2 boxs.
You can tell tech at dealer and most will make sue not to mess up your tune. They are good guys and understand what you are doing.
Good Luck but, look at SUPERCHIPS programed by HPTUNERS. These guys are very very picky.

Taz, regarding my handheld Superchips programmer, I was under the impression that if I returned my vehicle to stock mode with the programmer, the unit could then be used to program a different vehicle. People here have said that, my mechanic has said that, the company I bought my (new) programmer has said that, and gobs of e-bayers make the same claim....but your comments read differently. Do you mean "will work with only one rig"...at a time?

Pete..... you got it right, if you have the tuning from the programmer in your vehicle you cannot program another until you have returned the stock tune back into your vehicle from the programmer therefore the handheld programmer can only be used on one vehicle at a time. When Taz stated "only works on one rig at a time" this is what I assumed he also meant.

Re: Hypertech Max Energy Programmer
If it doesnt have options to disable Torque Managment like the Predator, then it's junk in comparison

Just to clarify, this used to be the case. Hypertech is in Memphis, and I have a very good friend that's an engineer for them. I talked to him about this new system. If you happy to lose your tune, the Max Energy looks over your system and "fills in the gaps". So no detuning and retuning.
As far as performance goes, Taz is right that you can't tune with this. HP Tuners or an ECU piggyback system of some sort is better. BUT you will NOT need to tune unless you have forced induction! Hypertech has their own dyno and spends hours upon hours to make your motor as effecient as can be from factory. This improves both gas mileage or power, depending on how you drive.
IN ADDITION, the Max Energy is updatable. Really cool. For example, if GM decided to change something halfway through the year, which is typical, you just hook the system to the USB port and download the right one. If it's something they haven't seen before, just download your stock info and send it to them. It'll be back to you in a day or two. Saves on shipping and time!
For anyone that wants to get this, it comes with a 30 day money back guarantee! Hypertech will reinburse the company you buy from for the purchase, so absolutely NO companies should have any problems taking care of it for you.
