Don't forget that spare is hanging off the rear so it's distance from the center is providing more leverage than the same amount of weight in the bed. To get the same moment of inertia you'll need more weight in the bed.

It's the same thing with sandbags in the bed of a pick-up, the guys that failed high school physics try to keep them near the axle, the guys that know better place them by the tailgate
