I just followed those steps to replace my mirrors and worked like a champ. It does take a bit of force to get the clips to release the door panels, just be patient and try not to do it while really cold the plastic gets brittle and more prone to cracking and/or breaking. Like the instructions say start at the bottom and work your way up. I want to change my door handles to black, any chance you are adding chrome and want to get rid of your black ones  Good luck!!
