but you may need the extension to clear the width of the tire:
go to the spare parts breakdown and look at part #B, they have an optional one thats longer but I don't see it on the site

Hey thanks tnd2 for the reply.... I've seen those as I was surfing around the web before I bought the Walmart job. See my post above to Destert Dan. So..I think I will Hack up that rack and modify it to make it work.

Thanks...

buy a cheap hitch basket then order the brackets or make your own. for the bikes... I bought mine from cabelas (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0013473510248a&type=product&cmCat=SEAR CH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=bike+rack&N=4887&Ntk=Produc ts&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=bike+rack&noImage=0 )

Then you just don't have a scrap of metal sitting around in the winter also if you go to the beach it's really handy to put your sandy boogie boards on instead of in your truck...

This is the spare tire rack that I got from Acadamey for $58. It's not the style you are lookin for but it works great. You can still open the cargo door if you don't have the 2 anchor straps attached. They are quick release so it very easy to undo them to access the door. I modified the rack by putting a foam insulator around the cross bar that rests on the wheel/chrome rim to keep it from scratching it. When you are not using it it folds flat for easy storage. Much better deal than the overpriced Thule rack or similar that has to bolt to the wheel.

This one looks sweet... Where do those bottom straps tie off too..?
Do they tie off to the what looks like tubes running down the rear of the spare?

Also...It looks like I could keep my soft tire cover on the spare also. Can you confirm that?

Thanks..

There are metal hooks on each strap. I attach mine to the right and left of the trailer hitch on the metal bumper. The fit perectly and do not scratch the bumper. The straps start at the middle of the tire in the picture and run to the bottom. There are no more tubes below the silver cross bar even though the pic kinda looks like it. You should be able to keep the soft cover on just fine. It will help protect your wheel from being scratched by the silver cross bar too. I don't think this rack will work with the hard tire covers though.

Hope that helps!
