Default Re: Oil Pressure after oil change

I am running Mobil 1, 5-30W. My oil pressure is steady at just past 40psi. You say you had the oil change done so I assume it was a Dealer or Indy who did it for you. I would take it back and ask them to check it. It may be some debris which is blocking the flow which will increase the pressure. Can I assume you checked the level to make sure they did not overfill it? If you wait and hope it goes a way, you are taking a big risk. If it is debris and you are thinking it is getting better, the debris may have just moved. IMHO don't take the risk. If in doubt, take it out and do it again. Oil is cheap compared to a new motor.

Default Re: Oil Pressure after oil change

I agree with IRA. I had the exact same thing happen with a boat 454 V8 after changing the oil. The oil pressure was running much higher than usual. The mechanic at the marina recommended replacing the filter I had put on, and sure enough, it resolved itself. When we took the filter off it looked fine, but the mechanic said some of the paper elements "can get too much finish spray." I knew it wasn't the oil pressure guage because it is mechanical and not electric. I'd change the filter and see what happens, it's cheap and probably what is wrong, especially if this happened right after an oil change.
