Re: Ike
A buddy of mine lives in Seabrook but was in Vegas when it hit is now driving home since the airports are closed, judging by the water mark of Landry,s on the Kemah waterfront he probably took water all the way up to his attic.

Re: Ike
I don't quite understand the people on Galvinston Island who stayed during the storm.
I survived Hurricane Andrew, stayed and experienced the problems afterward. But we didn't have a flood threat.
Galvinston Island was told the Storm would push the water over the entire island.
I would think after the New Orleans incident that people would learn...!
Maybe next time, HUH...

Re: Ike
This was my cousin’s beach house in Crystal Beach. I used to live next door when I was a kid. We stayed during Alicia in 83. That was bad enough I couldn't have imagined this. I was out there a less than two months ago. This is just insane!

There was an article that talked about how many homes still standing will be condemned even if they are repairable because the dune line has moved back so far.
Here:

The reason: A 1959 law known as the Texas Open Beaches Act. Under the law, the strip of beach between the average high-tide line and the average low-tide line is considered public property, and it is illegal to build anything there.
Over the years, the state repeatedly has invoked the law to seize houses in cases where a storm eroded a beach so badly that a home was suddenly sitting on public property. The aftermath of Ike could see the biggest such use of the law in Texas history.
