That is the statue of Mother Russia in the background in Volgograd in Southern Russia. I remember being surprised by seeing a few Hummers in Russia when I was there a year ago on business. There is a huge cemetery below the statue and the area is fairly wooded and barren. Of course whose looking st the statue anyway?
