I was very fortunate with my trans. When I sold my H2, I had a little over 100K and no problems... it shifted very hard and never gave me a problem except it did tend to get hot until I got an add'l cooler.

I installed a separate cooler under the truck with a separate fan.

That pretty well fixed the problem. I just had to watch hills while pulling trailers, etc.

I do alot of towing as well......what was the problem w/hills...did it get alot hotter? Did the tranny cooler fix that as well? I've read different things about the tow/haul button and SC's.......are there problems there too? Sorry for question attack, just trying to understand this whole thing.

No man, no problem at all. Anyone here is more than happy to help.

My problem was hills. Towing a 14' enclosed trailer with 2 harleys or 2 4 wheelers in it would make the temp creep to the 250-260 range. A few times, it buried the needle.

A GOOD cooler with fan will help this but not totally cure it. (granted, I'm also talking about 90+ degree weather)

I even went so far as blocking off the radiator tranny lines so the fluid didn't have to go through the hot radiator.


Not quite sure what the complete cure is but then again, who knows, maybe it was me. I do know this.... if I have to redo a trans, I'm going with the 4LE80 trans, not the stock 60.
