Default Re: Hummer Sold !!!!

I see everyone's point...and 'yes' it is good that Sichuan has 'no plans to manufacture Hummer in a Chinese plant.' More jobs in America...that's great.

BUT...there's just certain things that (up until now at least) have been inherently 'American'...that just make you think 'U.S.A.' when you hear them...Hummer, Jeep, Cadillac these are some of the things that are synonymous with our country. When I hear Hummer thoughts of Desert Storm, the American military, rocky switchbacks on a Colorado mountain come to mind; Jeep rouses visions of the wide open countryside that sprawls across our mid-west, freedom, and the ability to 'go anywhere'; and Cadillac...well, Cadillac makes me think of those long, shiny metal monsters of my youth that floated along the long stretches of interstate with over 400 cubes , an 8-track tape player, and fender skirts. These are American things...these are things that represent 'who we are/were' as a country and as a people. Are they all completely reasonable, sensible, and environmentally friendly symbols? No...but they're still 'our' symbols...they're still 'our' icons.

So, while I'm glad that American's working in these plants will still have their jobs, I'm disheartened that this young American icon will no longer truly be an 'American' icon. I said it before, 'it'll be me and my '05 until one of us dies.' I will not by a Chinese Hummer.

You better not open your eyes or you'll see just how "un-American" everything else is.

Got a call from a sales rep today to share the news of the buyout and they are already reducing some of the rebates. On a H3 he said it is now either the $5000 or 0% financing, not both. The other thing that is gone is the GM supplier discount. I think for the time being if we're going to add a 2nd Hummer to the garage it will be a used one.

Gang all I can say is the new owners cannot do a worse job than GM. If I had ever bought a new rig with GM on it I was going to take that off anyway. New company I hope will just leave the basic name H2 etc. and not add their name or initials. If they do I do not mean it to be a protest or disrespect to foriegn owners but, as we Hummer owners are quite resourseful and change whatever name any company tries to use other than the standard old basic names.

Honestly I'm just glad to know Hummer lives to spite those tree huggin leaf licking farts who were hoping Hummer would just die.

HAIL TO THE BEAST LONG LIVE THE BEAST WHICH IS HUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exclamation Re: Hummer Sold !!!!

Chinese Hummer is an oxymoron and GM's decision is simply moronic. If you guys think for one second that the communist backed Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. is interested in building the Hummer name versus learning how to play in the U.S. automobile market only to compete against the incumbent players that are already here, then just ask Dell how much they are enjoying the sale of IBM PCs to Chinese Lenovo!

I will never buy a Chinese Hummer. The deal is not closed yet. I encourage you to share your feelings with GM at: http://www.gm.com/utilities/contact_...deep=feedback#

And Hummer at: www.hummer.com

Net, net, the brand is more valuable to us later should GM shut it down temporarily and re-introduce it later when the market is back...just as they did the Camaro. If they sell it to the Chinese, it will be gone forever!

I don't give a sh!t who buys Hummer or where they are made, as long as I can keep driving them and they come out with new/improved models. If a Chinese built Hummer is of better quality, I'd buy it. I think GM has depended on people to buy crappy cars just because they are "American" for far too long.

I see the wheels falling off this china deal fast... maybe there is still hope for AM General to buy the name back and continue to make them in low volume high profit which would be good for all of us in respect to re sale and keeping the brand USA. Otherwise if it goes through we can thank big O for selling our beloved brand out to the chinese. I think GM had little to do with the "sale" Let's face it guys... if the china guys get it, we are not going to see an updated H2, they are going to buy the name and maybe keep the H3 around for a while, did you notice that in all of the hype, there is little or no mention of H2 product?
