Default Re: Recall - Heated Windshield Washer Fluid

Ive done a few of these recallsalready and its not a big mess. six wires cut and taped. module removed and hoses re-routed. Cant even tell hardly that it was ever there. I would recommend the dealer does it so if there was ever a probl,em and the recallwasnt done at the dealer your insurance may be void

The vehicle's harness doesn't even get cut. It's the wires that are part of the heater. There is no "major surgery" the wires are just cut and taped so the connector isn't left unplugged to get corrosion in it.

Thanks guys. That info helps.

What if I just unplugged the unit, instead of having it removed? That should have the same effect then, since there would be no power going to it, and as such, nothing could catch on fire?

I would prefer to keep the unit in the vehicle. Maybe some day there will be a proper repair for it, but by then it will have been yanked out. Maybe one day far in the future the H2 will become a collectors item, and it would be nice to have all the options intact (even if disabled).

So is there a fuse or connector that I can disconnect? I have bad experience with the dealer where they screwed up stuff, so I would prefer to do this myself....

If it just the fluid that is under recall, I will just have them replace with some autozone non heated windshield fluid

SORRY, could not resist due to the heading of the thread!

Help Humtech!

I am going to disconnect this myself, instead of letting the dealer chop (yes, literally, they cut off the connectors and tape them) up on my Hummer.

How do you disconnect these connectors (labelled #1 and #2) ? Do you need a special tool? What do you do to get them apart (they are locked together)? I managed to pry the #2 apart, but the big #1 is a mystery.

How do you keep water off the wiring harness connector ends that stay in the vehicle? Normally when the 2 halfs are connected together, there is a water-tight seal in between. Now the exposed ends need to be wrapped in something very waterproof. I do not want to cut the connector off the end, in case some time in the future a retrofit can be done with a non-faulty heater of some sort.

I presume by disconnecting these, that the heated WW pump can't burn down the H2?

Squeeze the tab down on the big two wire and pull. Same with the small one. Just take a close look and its obvious.
