I have done my chrome plastic mirror caps and aluminum roof rails with Duplicolor bedliner, and they are holding up great. I just sanded them really well and cleaned them with mineral spirits, then coated.

The mirror caps have been scraped pretty hard against trees and so far so good. In fact I thought for sure I was going to break the passenger mirror once while backing out of a trail that got too narrow, and it only showed some light scuffing but did not damage the bed liner. No peeling at all.

You can paint any chrome but don't get in a hurry because it is a multiple step process. Sand with 300 to 600 grit paper until the chrome begins to dull a little. Prime with a self etching prime (at least 2 coats). Prime with a standard metal primer (2 coats). Paint the color you want (3 to 4 coats). Clear coat application (2 coats). It will turn out fine and not peel but don't get in a hurry, don't overspray when applying any coat, and make sure you allow 3 times as long as the drying time which the product says it needs for drying.

You can do alot of it yourself but I agree with everyone on here, take your time with the prep.

I did my door handles, hood handles, hood latches, mirrors, and wheels with flat black paint. I did the grill and roof racks, light bar with spray on bedliner. everythings holding up well no flaking, i think its been about 2 yrs...
for prep everything was sanded, cleaned and primed.
