I wouldn't use the term rare, but uncommon yes; At least where I'm from anyway. I get a lot of negative comments on other car forums I'm on, but never in person. I do however get the, "don't you know gas will be $5 a gallon soon".

I really like my H2. If gas was $5 or more a gallon I'd still drive it.

They are very common in the north Dallas area. It is almost like seeing a Chevy Tahoe.

Wow! I would be lucky to see 2-3 stock Hummers a year here. When i mean stock. I mean a normal sized Hummer. A limo version i might see once a month. But that would be right in the middle of the city.

When i do come across another one we normally give one another a wave. That sort of greeting is normally reserved for the owners of cars with a cult following here. Landrover Defenders TVR,s etc. No i can honestly say that i have never suffered any abuse while driving it.

I prolly see 4-6 on any given day in the DC metro area...all stock. I haven't gotten a negative comment in a long time (year or more).

I keep mine pretty dirty though...a bath once a month (if that). I've said it before, it gets positive comments when it's dirty and a lot of dirty looks when it's clean.

I think the fad of Hummer bashing is winding down...(knock)

I live in a pretty small town (15K) in northwest PA and there aren't many here. Maybe 5-6 around town. One is pimped with giant rims (puke) and I only see it in the summer, the rest are stock. I am the only lifted one in the area that I have seen. I have been noticing a lot of H3's lately though. I haven't been vandalized in years, used to happen often. I agree, people are either realizing they aren't THAT bad mpg or are simply getting over it.
