Re: Seriously thinking of selling my 03 H2 for a Delica - thoughts / flames
"...It’s simple, you buy an H2 for the vehicle it is, crappy gas mileage is part of that equation. If you can’t afford it or don’t like it, buy a prius..."
Aside from recently buying my Black H2 because I've always wanted one {previous wife nixed that desire for many years, along with cutting off my almost unbroken chain of Harley ownership dating back to the 70's}, being a quasi-retired Architect I can easily afford it's idiosyncrasies and plan to simply 'write-off' it's operating expenses as SOP....add to that the fact that my other car is, in fact, a Toyota Pruis...well, I'm good with it.
I also consider it a test bed for a WWII-era fuel savings experiment I'll be developing...either way, I"M happy with my H2!!
Regards,
Buck.

I would like it if everyone who owned an H2 sold it, just so I could have the pick of the litter. hehehehehe.

Well, not the most intelligent\accurate comment.
Here is why:
The fact that most owners who purchased their H2's back in 03,04, & 05 were not concerned with the gas prices. In march of 03 the avg. price was 1.72. Now, in 2006-2008 the prices sky rocketed, so if you bough an H2 during the summer of 2008 then the above quote would apply, but for those who purchased their H back in the day...then I understood the rant.

Well, actually it is....
One fallacy to your point. If gas prices rose and everything else stayed the same, I?d agree.
However, gas is as expensive then as it is now. Sure it may have only been $2.00 per gallon but minimum wage was $4.00
So yes, gas has gone up but so has everything else... it?s still relative.
My initial point is the truck gets 10 mpg then and gets 10 mpg now. Anyone who bought it didn?t buy it for gas mileage.
And as I said before, if you don?t like the gas mileage, then you should buy a prius or do something about it.

$1.72 in the spring of 2003 vs. $4.26 in July of 2008. Please explain to me how that's "as expensive then as it is now"

Show of hands here...who was driving their Hummer back in 2006-2008 while making minimum wage? Anybody? My earlier point was simple. The price of gas now vs. back then is what is driving people to get rid of their gas hungry vehicles. If you buy a gas hungry vehicle today...you know the deal.

Cause the cost of living has gone up also. Did you make the same amount in 2010 as you did in 2003? If you?re like most people, you?re making a ****load more than you were then. (not because it?s worth more, inflation drives the numbers up...)

Really? Did you really think I was making the point that someone on minimum wage was driving an H2 in 2003? Don?t be stupid. I was making the point that inflation has driven not only the cost of gas up but everything else too... including wages.
I was making the point gas was a major expense based on income back in 2003. Yes, it was less, but so was the income level.
Let?s just agree that the H2 is a gas pig. Well, yours is.
I?ll continue to drive my 20mpg on the highway H2....

Re: Seriously thinking of selling my 03 H2 for a Delica - thoughts / flames
I like the size and performance of the H2 in the snow. As several have said here, it's hard to beat the performance of the H2 in the snow. Gas is expensive on these 6000 lb plus non aerodynamic vehicles, but to me the fun factor makes up for all that. My H2 has been one of the most reliable American built vehicles I've ever owned! If the fun factor is gone, it might be time to look around. I saw a silver 4 X 4 Hyundai Tucson with big tires at the gas gas station, and the onwer claimed he was averaging 23 mpg in mixed city/highwway.
