When it gets cold the air pressure in your tires goes down, thus causing a slight decrease in MPG. During very hot weather the psi usually goes up quite a bit and while it gives you a little boost in MPG it will also cause the center of the tread to wear faster.
Checking your tire psi should be done on a routine basis not only for optimum mpg but to ensure even wear on the treads.

12.5 MPG @ 25 AMPH after arriving at office. Still looks like an improvement. Of course it will take 25,000 miles to break even!
