I have a 98 and love the thing, its a great truck. My truck is unfortunatly spends all of its time on road right now. For highway I use I have to say the 99 would be a better buy, the 98 takes a bit of time to learn to drive on icy roads and has a tendancy to slide around if your not really conservitive on the throttle. But, at the same time with a little practice on bad roads the 98 will drive around as nicely as a 99, and be a superior off road truck. Its all a matter of preferance. I have got to say though, the only thing better then a 98 or 99 HUMMMER is a HUMMER H1 with a WARRENTY. Do yourself a favor Johnny get a truck with a warrenty it will save you a ton of money. A case in point example is my 98. I have had it almost a year now (oct 2003) and have around 6 grand in repairs (the previous owner did not take good care of my truck, which is why anyone buying an H1 should never buy one without service records like I did). Tomarrow its going to the shop (no not the dealer) for three engine codes and a tranmission that is not functioning correctley. Hopefully it wont be a huge deal, but say I need a new transmission the cost of that and the labor will put me over another 3K at least. Bringing my sunken cost over 9 grand in a year.
