What will restore the black plastic on the H2 - like the rear bumper? Right now mine is a greyish color and it looks awful. As per SEVERAL past threads, I have tried Armor All, and while it will work for a little while while it's still wet, it's streaky and doesn't look great when it dries. I tried the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser too, and it looked even worse.
Ideas?
Stacy

Re: Stupid black GM plastic.
I tried the TS1 Armor Dillo product and it works great, my truck was used and the bumpers were really faded so I was surprised how easy it was, It took 8 minutes and it looks fantastic after one application and it hasn't faded like all the other products i have tried. It is pricey but well worth it! It is not wet so it doesn't attract dirt.

Bulletin 04-08-111-001B explains how to deal with discolored or chalky body cladding and cargo covers on the Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT, using a product called Armor-Dillo TS-1 (fig. 9 and 10).
This is a one-time warranty repair and future coatings are the customer’s responsibility. A retail maintenance pack is available for resale by your parts department. See the bulletin for ordering information.
Armor-Dillo is silicone-free and is formulated to remove oxidation, discoloration, staining and fading from hard molded plastic automotive parts. It’s especially effective on grained surface textures. When used on parts that have white wax buildup, it essentially dissolves the wax.
Armor-Dillo is suitable for treating unpainted plastic body components such as mirrors, side moldings, and cowls, and coated metal such as roof racks. Also grained bumper covers, cladding and fascias, as used on Vibe, VUE, Envoy, TrailBlazer, Colorado, Hummer and Tahoe.
Armor-Dillo is not intended for use on painted surfaces, although if it is accidentally applied and allowed to dry, you can remove it with an application of mineral spirits.
It’s also not intended for soft rubber parts, including tires.
Refer to the bulletin for detailed application instructions. Here are a few important highlights.
- The surface must be clean, dry and silicone-free before application. Wipe down the surface with mineral spirits ro rubbing alcohol to remove wax or silicone.
- After application, allow the product to sit a few minutes. Then wipe the surface with a damp, lint-free towel, or it will remain tacky.
- A second application may be needed.

As my truck is only a few months old i dont have this problem but i have seen it on several H2's. What can be done to prevent this? Ive been told by detailers not to use products like armor all as the oil speeds up the aging. Any thoughts?

Check out the painted bumper covers...that's what I plan on doing to mine. Front and rear cost around $1300. painted and shipped to your door.

Can you elaborate a little? Does this product remain wet after application and attract all the dirt? How does it work? Where can you find it?

I use Turtle WaxTire Wax Professional Tire Dressing. It will give it a deep wet shine look.
And it will last for a very long time.

I believe he is referring to Mothers Back to Black. I use it on all the black plastic on mine and makes it very black. While it looks good when you put it on it attracts dust and washes off with water. I like it but am looking for something with a little more longevity to use.

if nothing's working and as a last effort before replacement, there is a paint made for plastic bumpers. works well and doesn't flake when stressed like regular automotive paint. i forget the name, but you can find it at auto parts stores.

I will not use armourall on anything any more. In the florida sun it cooks the plastic in no time leaving it grey and only requiring more armour all. My H2 is 1.5 years now and the bumpers look new after doing nothing but keeping them clean. On my jeep they were grey within 6 months thanks to AA. If you really like the black look maybe replacement?

Didn't we have a thread about using peanut butter oil?
GUNK tire dressing works great without the crappy after results of Armor All.
