If you're under your 36,000 miles, they should cover the battery and anything else that may have been damaged due to the leaking acid, like cables, battery tray, etcc.
If you're over the 36,000 just bite the bullet.
GM isn't going to budge. Batteries are the one thing they don't budge on. GM's position is that it is their responsibility to get you a good battery until 36k, and then anything after that is luck to you. GM won't buy the battery.
And I'm sad to tell you that you are by far not the only person who has encountered a leaking battery. Been happening for years.
Thankfully not nearly as much, but it does still
happen some.
