Battery Guru's What is best set up?
Ok, my battery is starting to do funny things. I drove all day today no issues, then I pulled over to get a burrtio and when I came out it wouldn't start. We hooked up some cables to my buddies Explorer and it did nothing. He reved the motor and I hit the key, and it started without hesitation. Then I got home 5 min away, and it started fine again. All this time the radio, lights and everything else worked fine.
Anyway I hope its the battery. I want to go to a dual set up anyway since I have the warn multi mount winch, 12 accessory lights ( I use them very often almost daily), trailer brakes, etc.
I love optimas but according to many sources, they don't have one with the required 880 CCA's??WTF? I saw the yellow top with 900 CCA's but it dosent show as being the right battery for the H2??? And its a deep cycle rather than starting battery.
Should I do this battery X2 or do one red starting battery and one yellow deep cycle battery w/ an isolator? Or use a totally different set up?
TIA.

Re: Battery Guru's What is best set up?
Another question...Does this set up make the CCA's from both batteries available when starting? I.e 800+800=1600CCA's.

Yes, it makes both available. But they are also both available to drain (neither is isolated for backup). Deep cycle batteries are fine for starting, especially if they meet the CCA requirements. You will do just fine with 1 or 2 yellow tops.

I have been thinking about running that new 900cc yellow top from optima. The only issue that I have seen is that the posts on the optima are both top post (one is SAE and the other is threaded). I might just change my cables so that I can use it. I have a winch, lights, and a big stereo so I want the deep cycle.

Alan
When your truck didn't start, did you have lights ???
It might very well be your ignition switch starting to bitch.
I had the same issues until suddenly it wouldn't start at all.
Sometimes it would not start, wait 1 day and then nothing. If this is the issue you better get it fixed right away.
If you are stranded turn your ignition on, turn your wheel all the way to the left (i think) then you will be able to reach the starter by going in right behind you right front wheel.

Re: Battery Guru's What is best set up?
Does anyone here know who has this dual battery setup? Battery size? Is the stock battery tray used?
I like this setup except I would want to use an isolator so that I can save one battery for emergency starts. Anybody have info on this pic?

Isn't there a kit that optima makes for the 900cca battery that "converts" it to side posts?

I think I found it by using the term "best battery" in the search feature.

Thanks. I think that may be happening. I have hit the key and nothing happened and then on the second try, no issues??? That was a few months ago. I need to bring it to the dealership one more time before my warranty is up.
Great tip on jumping the solenoid on the starter. I'll use that trick if it strands me again.

That's my setup/pic. I wish I had answers to all your questions. I picked up the truck a week ago. The preivous owner had installed the dual yellow top setup. I'd be happy to take more detailed pics if it would help in determining what he did. I'll give him a call tomorrow and see if he can give me more information.
