HID Expert Needed for Opinion/ trouble shoot help
So I am in the process of installing HID fogs on my H2 (i've actually been photographing process for a "How To" for ths site). I have encountered a problem that I think may be the bulb. I have a "working side" (driver) and "non working side" (passenger). I have enough mechanical knowledge to know the connections are all correct. The non working (passeger) side will flicker once and shut off immediately when I try to fire it up. I then switched the ballasts from one side to another and the same thing still happened. The passenger side still did not work and the drivers side did. So both ballasts work on the driver and both don't on the passenger. Question is, could the flicker and shutting off be from a bad bulb? My natural instinct tells it's a connection problem but I checked and rechecked and couldn't find anything.
Thanks for anyone's help

Re: HID Expert Needed for Opinion/ trouble shoot help
This is going to sound crazy but check your fuse's. When HID's start they use quite a bit more power than regular bulbs. You could have blown that fuse with the 1st power up. If it's blown or not you should increase the fuse size to be able to handle the initial start up. After they ignite they use less power than regular bulbs so putting in a bigger fuse won't hurt.

Could be a bad bulb, bad internal connection or bad wire splice.

Well I know it's not a fuse. I used no existing vehicle wiring. It's all new. There is one fuse so for one light to be working that can't be it.
At this point in time too, it simply can't be a bad connection. I have tested all of them and have ruled that out.
"RippSpeed I have the same problem but I havent chase after it because I've been busy... But its definitly a bad ground...

power, on the new wiring harness is to the battery (with relay and fuse on the line) and negative is to the battery.
See I'm thinking it has to be the bulb, but I'm just not familair with what signs a bad bulb would exhibit. I know when a halogen goes out it out. No flicker no nothing. Which is why i find it strange that this bulb will flicker once and shut off immediately on initial powerup.

its not a bulb... trust me, I have the same problem...
This is what you need to do to make sure its not a bulb... First you said the driver side works. Now the passenger side doesnt work. Unplug the passenger side bulb and hook it up to the driver side balast and if it works then its not the bulb... It has to be with the power source or the grounding spot ...

did that and the bulb still did not work. Both ballasts function properly when hooked up to the drivers side bulb. Both "power outs" on the wiring harness work when on the driver side bulb. Only thing left is the bulb on the passenger side. It's the common denominator.
Strange thing though, i just went though everything, all new connectors, double checking everything and it seems to be working ok now.
hope it stays working. I'm ordering a new bulb anyways.

Re: HID Expert Needed for Opinion/ trouble shoot help
Are both ballasts wired so they each have their own ground and power? If either ckt is wired in series it may be the problem. Not had much experience with hid's myself

the capacitor bumps the voltage of the lights so they would stay on... contact Todd at sales@retro-solutions.com and asking him how the capacitor help with a hummer h2 with day light running light ...

And what kit did you get?
Thanks,
