Hey kodiakz,

I don't know if this a small challenge for, but I'm plannng to install Kenwood DDX8027 ( Kenwood DDX8027 ) that is an European model for DDX7017, or atleast very close. Few questions regarding that:

1. Does it make a difference if the model uses different frequencies for radio to make all the fade control, chemes and steering wheel ops to work as they are stock (I don't need the OnStar since it doesn't work here. I'm planning to instal the Nav unit in OnStar's slot)?

2. I would really like to know for sure that what PAC units or others do I need to make this work. I'm getting my new 2006 H2 after new years some time so, I can't check the radio/amp for 2006, which will have to do with what do I need from PAC etc.

3. Anu comments and help regarding the installation would be appreciated. Garry did a nice job and it didn't seem to such a big deal for him, but if there are many little details I need know, like you mentiond about fade control, I'd definately like know those.

Thanks, hope you can help!

W1n, should all be the same as far as interfaces go. I would get the Peripheral gmah24b for the head unit interface, a gmachm for the chime module, and the soundgate rem v1.4 (I think that;s the model but it's late!!) for the steering wheel controls. You won't have a fader if you keep the oem amp, but I would condsider removing the amp and just using the Kenwood's power to drive the speakers as it has as much or more than the blows amp. If you do that, you can use a Peripheral gmco for chime and rap/switched power. Best kits makes a nice install bracket set specifiaclly for double din units in gm vehicles.

Thanks kodiakz!

Ok, I'd just like understand few things little better. Let's say I'll drop the OEM amp and go with the Kenwood only.

- What do you mean "rap/switched power"?
- How about the steering wheel controls? Would I use Soundgete there as with the OEM amp?

All I found from Soundgate was #REMOTE6 (no refence to v1.4)

Which kit would you recommend from http://www.bestkit.com? I was thinking maybe the BKGMK422 and I would just cut the middle plastic piece out?

What braket would you use for placing a single DIN (Kenwood NAV ) Nav unit in OnStar's place?

Would this all be easy install? How long would that take?

Thanks!

RAP is retained accessory power (power that stays on until a door is opened). Yes the remote 6 is correct. That adaptor will simply allow you to retransmit infrared remote signals to the radio by unsing the steeering wheel controls. If you wire around the oem amp altogether, you can use the power that is provided by the Kenwood (5o watts x 4) to run all the speakers and sub. The GMK422 is perfect and you can cut the center brace and use that piece for a trim ring then mount the unit with the supplied brackets. Install is not too hard and would take me 1-2 hours. You will need to take apart the entire center console, the radio/heater bezel, and remove the lower dash panel on the driver's side (for access to the data wire to be cut for steering wheel control).

Kodiakz,

You didn't happen to have the wiring diagram of speakers and the specs for the oem amp?

Thanks!

kodiakz,

as I will be removing the oem amp and will be using the Kenwood only, I was wondering that what are the audio inputs for all the speakers? Because there are only RCA outputs from the Kenwood and I doupt that there are RCA inputs for all the speakers just plain wire? Seems like I need a amp there anyways...

Generally you connect the receiver to the amp and the audio will be going over signal wire and then from the amp over regular wire. At least it looks like Kenwood doesn't have directly outputs so that I can connect it to the speakes.

Can you help?

Thanks!

Just got the confirmation of one new 2006 has been found, that is being sent to me. I got the VIN number last week. They had difficulties, because I wanted a lux with black tubular steps and they finally found one. For some reason I thought that it would be easy for a dealer to do the switch...

I have tons of custom stuff in my house waiting the truck to come in. I will definately post lots of pictures for you guys when I get the Black Ops copy in my hands

Happy New Year 2006!!!!!
