Default Roof lights on hold?

Went down to the dealership to have them finish the up grades on my hummer and I was told that all roof light mounting kits are currently on hold due to rattling at high speeds.

I am moving to the mountains in 7 days and a wake up, and I do mean into the mountains. I really wanted them because they will be useful, and they add my style to the hummer. Im not a big bling-bling fan, rather a off roader type.

Also I am concerned when I do move, that the local Hummer dealership will honor the agreement of the package that I paid for.

What is the best approach to handle this problem?

I don't have all of your answers, but I know that our dealer received the new marker lights in a couple of months ago. We had wanted them, but were told to wait because of the rattle at higher speeds. Now they are in. You have probably already thought of this, but ... is there another Hummer dealer near you who might already have them in stock?

They are on an all stop. No ordering or selling. They have a fix for rattle at high speed but it is inefective. Have you thought or looked into getting the off road lights that mount in the lower grille? http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=17894

Marker light fixes have been nothing but bandaids. What I want is the redesigned version that actually works without problems or repeated attempts by the dealer to fix.

GM came up with a silicone adhesive fix that has worked great for me!

I have taken mine in three times to get the wind noise fixed and my marker lights were installed after the new install procedure came out. The first two times they were quiet for about a week or so. The third time apparently was the charmer. It has been almost 3 months now and no issues. Hopefully it will continue that way. Good luck with yours.

Still on hold -- but its the roof marker lamps, not the off-road lamps -- if you're getting those for off-roading or dark roads, I wouldn't. They have a tendency to shine off the glass and hood -- I'd go for a better light bar personally..

Yes you are correct, you did tell me that. I understand it is a manufacturing problem that needs to be addressed.

Post pictures, of coarse. But being in suburbia, and our area, not knowing any off road clubs, I haven't had a real chance to get it off road for some good photos yet.

Trust me, on my new property, I have plenty of space and obsticals to have some fun on. Of course, I will do all of my off roading in a manner that repects my hummer.

I like the light bar on top, adds a bit of character to the hummer. I have already consider the lights on the front and brush guard. Next step will be to fab up my own light bar in my shop. I already have plans for a roof rack, which I will produce after I move.

As an alternative you could always get the XTC Light bar. I've seen them in real life and they're not to shabby.

I have the roof mounted lights and they do make allot of wind noise at 75-80 MPH but I have found that they work pretty well on the trails at night to give you light at a different angle. I have learned from the military that at night, driving lights or even NODs (Night Oberservation Devices), often give you a lack of depth derception. Dangerous at times. The roof lights often light up the ditches that you might miss with the driving lights. They are also great for lighting up recovery/repair areas. I would go for the sun roof if i had to do it again

I do like the OEM lights, and I imagened that they would be able to throw out that much needed extra lighting when driving on trails.

The different heights of lighting is important when you have to suss out the distance and depth.

Hey it wasn't me that got the Hummer stuck one night during guard duty at the ammo depot. I told Thorton he couldn't do, but did you think he listened to me? No, instead we spent 2 hours digging the hummer out in below zero temps.

My truck was built the week before Xmas and the dealer installed the off road lights prior to me picking up the H3 in mid January. Have not had any noise from the lights on mine. The speed limit here in Montana is 75 on the Interstate and we also get alot of wind blowing, fortunately no noise for me.

You know as a Cav Troop we have winched hummers up hills using trees and had to winch them back down, had to winch one out of a water filled tank position that we had to scuba for ( last quote according to his gunner was watch this), had one stuck in a wadi so tight the doors would not open and all wheel were off the ground (But they assured me they were not going that fast then they entered the wadi).

The one thing that remains, they usually only get stuck when the drivers and TC get stupid

if it is a factory defect that will be covered by warranty the will. unless they are just so busy they will turn down work. we have spoken with HUMMER/GM and they agree that it does not matter who does the work, GM is paying
