Default 2006 H2 Tailgate/spare tire gate

For some odd reason, GM has decided NOT to install a locking mechanism that will keep the rear tire gate open when it is swung open. The 2006 H2s have the rear tire gate that swings to the right. In order for you to open the tailgate without scratching the paint, you must hold the gate all the way open.

Has anybody come up with an idea (outside of a bungee or rope) to keep the gate open without holding it? It would be nice to somehow insert a locking pin that can easily be installed and removed.

Thanks!

don't grease it, just a little to keep it from rusting, it will also make a good work out opening and closing it
