Found these links on another site that says if you add acetone in small quantities (like 3 oz per 10 gallons), it will add about 2-3 mpg for Hummers.

http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directo..._Fuel_Additive

Anyone here willing to try this?

"Pretty hard to believe that only 2-3 oz. of Acetone could have such a dramatic effect, but my mileage on my Prius went from 43 mpg to over 54 mpg, on the same tank of gas!" (J.; March 21, 2005)

"Still getting about 15-20% improvement in my Prius Mileage w/Acetone" (J; April 6, 2005)

[edit]Running Rich Drops Mileage
Acetone in Acura Integra '92 Fuel Drops Mileage by 1.1% (http://pesn.com/2005/03/25/6900071_Acura_Acetone/) - Four runs of ~100 miles, two without acetone, two with, did not yield increased mileage as expected, but a slight decrease. Ratio may be too rich. (PESN; March 25, 2005)
[edit]90 Town Home up 5%
March 26, 2005
"3oz/10 gal in 90 town car over same 60 mile route 10 times /week gave a 5% increase in fuel economy."

[edit]Sentzmastersmith's Two Vehicles
Sentzmastersmith's Acetone Report - Initial findings from adding 2 oz / 10 gallon ratio: increased power, better idle, better shifting. (March 26, 2005)

[edit]Dodge Caravan V6, Merc Sable V6
Long-term Use of Acetone in Dodge Caravan and Mercedes Sable - General increase in mileage with addition of 4 oz per 10 gallons. Test reports of acetone effect on fuel-line components. (by Dave Narby)
[edit]Cost Savings Summary
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/...ne/message/126

We run a ratio of 1:320 acetone to gasoline (4 oz per 10 gal). This creates a 10% increase in MPG (conservatively) which translates to a 10% savings in fuel.

Therefore, for every gallon of acetone you run through your car, you save 32 gallons of fuel (10% of 320 gallons).

1 gallon of acetone costs about $10.00
32 Gallons of fuel costs about $64.00

Therefore, for every gallon of acetone used, you save $54.00 (as of this writing [March 31, 2005]).

[edit]Ford Explorer & Dodge Spirit
"rface" Reports on Acetone - 1996 Ford Explorer goes from 16.7 to 20 mph with 3 oz / 10 gallon mix. Plans to try it on 1993 Dodge Spirit.

Acetone is also 5% water... Wouldn't this accumulate over a period of time? Also acetone doesn't burn cleanly and could cause exhaust combustion (at least I would think) not real sure though.

Interesting, maybe I will try it on one of my cars I dont care about

""Acetone can reduce hydrocarbon emissions up to 60 percent. In some older cars, the HC readings with acetone in a 1986 GMC went from 440 PPM to 195, as just one example. Though mileage gains taper off with too much acetone, hydrocarbon emissions are nevertheless greatly reduced. Pure acetone is an extremely clean burning fuel that burns in air with a pretty blue, smokeless flame.

Acetone reduces the formation of water-ice crystals in below-zero weather which can damage the fuel filter. Change that fuel filter every year to protect injectors.

There are no known bad effects and every good reason to use acetone in your fuel. I have never seen a problem with acetone, and I have used ACETONE in gasoline and diesel fuel and in jet fuel (JP-4) for 50 years. I have rigorously tested fuels independently (with burns all over me) and am considered an authority on this important subject."""

Hi,
First off I am a new member here and we just started tesing this in our 02 TJ and our 05 H2. On the TJ our first day out this week with 4oz to 10 gal the mpg jumped from 15.5 to 19.6. But with the Hummer it was a windy day Saturday 26-40 mph and it still got 11.5 mpg. We are going 200 miles the next couple of days in the Hummer and I am going to drop it to 2 oz to 10 gal and retest it. We will keep you posted. Of course our Hummer does not even have 5000 miles on it so it's still getting broke in.

Can't wait to hear the results T&B. Make sure to post pics of your vehicles for us. Can't wait to see.

Interesting choice of threads to say "Hi" on. Have a good trip.

Thanks KenP,

I've been lurking for a few months and decided to join tonight for a question I had over in the Tech section. I am making a couple changes at a time trying to get a couple of mpg's out of the H2 and the TJ.

Thumber and Buttercup.....try using no more than 3 oz per 10 gallons as the article says as the benefits drop above that setting....

We'll,

Time to refill with gas and start over, today mix was 3oz to 10 gal, and mileage dropped to 10.7mpg on the interstate doing 75mph. It was 49 and rainy. Off the interstate doing 55 mileage jumped to 15.7 mpg.
I think the loss in mpg was the Ganatelli. Tomorrow I am going to dilute the mix, we have only used 10gal and run her there and see what happens. Before these mods running the interstate our H2 got between 13 and 14.7 at
75 mph. This is with just the Airaid cold air system with the Airaid tube. I am going to back off on the Acetone, the web site I looked at recommended 4oz per 10 gallon that is what we used in the TJ and she jumped from 15.5 to 19.6 the first test day out. One thing I cannot get away from is Ethanol 10% in the fuel up here.

Funpilot, I'm not going to believe you until I see you put it in the tank myself. And I live close. I just can't believe it unless I see it.

The report states that too much will drop mileage, I would start at 2oz per 10 gallons...

OK,

Filled up today for the return trip, fillup took 11 gal even, with too much Acetone in there this ammount should have dropped the vehicle down to about 2oz per 10 gal. At 75 mph we were getting 13mpg today with a small headwind. At 65 mph truck jumped to 15.5 mpg at 55 mph the H2 was getting 16.5 mpg. There is a overpass that the H2 always kicksdown and hits the throttle, well today she just went right over them without the kick in the pants, I did hear the transmission start to wind up then it just returned to normal without the engine kicking up. So far I am happy, but time will tell, I add everything to my spreadsheets and see what the overall mpg averages.
