Michael Bloomberg has declared "Summer Streets," The
New York Times reports. A nearly 7-mile swath of east Manhattan will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the second, third and fourth Saturdays of the month.
The auto-free zone will run alongside the MTA's 4-5-6 subway route, from the Brooklyn Bridge through Astor Place and Union Square all the way to 72nd Street on the Upper East Side.
The Times says that fitness, yoga and dance classes will be held in the streets along the route, and that bicycle rentals will be available.
