Default Rims...steel...alloy...

Is anyone running steel rims?

Last year I switched from the stock 35 BFG All Terrains to 37 BFG Mud Terrains on the stock rims. I'm burning through the MT quickly, so I'll prolly be looking to get new tires in the spring. That got me thinking...

I wanna consider the overall wheel weight this time...I figure if the wheel weighs less, it's easier for the motor to turn it. Thinking logically...alloy weighs less than steel and rubber weighs less than alloy, so a lot of rubber on an alloy rim should be the lightest solution...right?

I'm definitely NOT going back to 35s...so what would be the lightest option using 37 inch tires? I like to look of black steel rims...but don't want to add unnecessary weight.

This may seem like a 'no brainer' to a lot of you, but I still thought I'd throw it out the elcova-masses since many of you have tried various combinations.

Thanks in advance.

Well, according to this site the 17"x9" steel wheel weighs about 40 lbs, and their one aluminum wheel they list weighs 45 lbs.

Weight could vary a lot depending on design, but I think a simple steel wheel will usually be lighter than a comparable alloy one. Steel can be thinner. I know the stock alloy wheels are heavier than heck! I'll have to weigh one of mine before I put them on.

Hmmmm, is there a pattern developing here?

The stock wheels actually don't weigh that much, if I had to guess, 35-40lbs tops.
