Hey guys,

Just starting to think about going under the hood to do a few mods to increase performance and maybe even gas milage. Anyone who has any info on air intakes I would love to hear from you. Pro's and cons, as well as cost and installation ease or difficulty.

Kevin,

Three things that are very easy to install and require little or no tools or experence. Granatelli Mass Airflow Sensor, Granatelli Diablo Programer, and a new Airaid Intake System. You will increase air flow, increase throttle response and get rid of that tourqe managment system at a min! After this you should follow with a new free flowing cat back system like a Banks Monster Exhaust system. The nice thing about all these mods is that there are no major changes to your H2 that could not be removed if needed for warranty repair at your dealer. you can go on and spend a bunch of money but the first three things are the biggest bang for the buck. Kevin, I have done all those mods that Big C just spoke off and I think that you would be happy with them as well.. I like the power and performance that I have picked up with the install...

Personally, I'm very happy with Breathless' air intake........and it comes in a variety of end cover colors.

2003 White Lux, Alpine Nav, DVD/Tuner, 3 Screens, Cold Air with Vented Snorkels, Metal Dash & Mats, Corsa Exhaust, SMA - Gas Cover, Side Air Vent, Hood Handles, A/C Rings, Headers, Nology Plugs & Wires.

White Beast is right, Breathless is another great product. I guess there are so many out there to choose from. Just take your time Kevin. Remember if you change everything now there will be nothing to do later! BIG-C

I went with the AirForce One air induction and really like it.

Black H2 Adventure Series + Luxury, AirForce One intake, Throttle Body Bypass, Gobi Rack w/2" Brackets & 4 PIAA 580 Lights, Alcoa Wheels, Goodyear 37x12.50x17 MT/R, Warn 9.5Ti Thermometric Winch, DiabloSport programmer,160 Degree T-Stat, 2-7" screens in headrests with DVD player and TV Tuner.

Kevin,
Do you ever plan on taking your beast off road? maybe through some water some time? Then don't change the air intake. Did you happen to see the last featured vehicle pic of my H2 stuck in a stream pretty much at a 40 degree angle up to the middle of the passenger's side headlight? I kept it running for about two hours because I was afraid of the tailpipe filling up with water. The air intake is designed to not draw water, and believe me, it won't. But if you're not gonna have that kind of fun, then I'd recommend waiting for the K&N Filtercharger system. I had one on my Tahoe and it made a very noticeable difference.

Kevin........

I took Dirtyfn's and some others advice with respect to the possibility of water and replaced my stock filter with a drop in Airaid filter and then replaced the stock "plumbing" with an Airaid Modular Intake Tube(MIT). This is a direct replacement for all the stock air tubing from the air box to the engine that is a straight tube rather than all the crooks and bends.

Works great and I still have the stock airbox for getting wet!!

Can you take a picture of the MIT? Where did you buy it? Is the tube smooth and does it speed air flow? Do you think the filter made any difference?

I am looking to make the same changes to my intake system, but $100 for an air filter seems high.

H2Daddy........
Here's a shot for you.

I added the filter a couple of months ago and my mileage increased .2 I've been looking for a tube and an offroad friend suggested the Airaid tube. I changed it, went to Magnecor sparkplug wires, changed the height & tires all in a span of a couple weeks so can't really tell you anymore specifically on the air system.

My current mileage with 37s is 11.9 and that's around town......as far as where to get the tube, I bought this one thru www.macromotive.com

Thanks for the picture. I was thinking along the same lines as you. I wanted to improve the intake system without risking water ingestion. I think the stock air box is fine, it's just the tube that looks ineffectual.

What kind of lift did you add? How is the handeling after the lift. I am thinking of adding a lift and tires too. Check out this site http://www.t2hummer.com/T2Hummer/WHEELTIRE.HTM
I like the B5 and C3 wheels. I am wondering if a super charger is inevitable after adding bigger wheels. The H2 feels slow with stock wheels. I have added headers and a Corsa exhaust to try and add a little power, but don't feel much of a difference.

By the way, have you posted a picture of your H2 after the lift and new tires?

I asked some of the hardcore offroad folks in my area to give me some advice based on where I wanted to use the Hummer and ended up with a 4" Rancho.....then BFG 37s on powdercoated 17x10 ARs...handling is not altered at all. I used a Proflash Programmer after the mods and performance actually appears better via my "butt dyno"........

I still have decisions to make regarding exhaust, just running a Flowmaster at the moment but thinking JBA headers with a Banks exhaust.......

Good luck with your mods......I do 'em just for the fun of tinkering!!

Magnecor wires came from www.thunderracing.com and they did make a difference with engine running smoother and it seemed to have a slightly quicker response. Checked around with some of the drag racing enthusiasts for what wires to get and these were the ones folks liked the most........

MC2 is a great brand. It sure is a different look on a H2. I wonder how hard it will be to clean all those holes? My fingers hurt already!! HAHA!! BIG-C

It would be great if one could see all the different wheels in person.

When considering wheels, I now also think about the difficulty of cleaning them. I have a set of BBS wheels which have spokes in a X pattern and it is a real bitch cleaning them.

Same for me H2 Daddy, The easy to clean factor is high on the list of which wheels I will buy. If a wash mitt can't get it clean I wont buy it! BIG-C
