I'll ditto those remarks about not swerving to avoid.
I love animals as much as the next guy (I prefer mine over the grill 
).
Next time, just slam on your brakes instead of swerving/ Then you can tell yourself you made an attempt to not hit it. If it's their time, It's out of your hands.
