Because they used to ride. 
This is pic of mom in 1951,dad was a nyc motorcycle cop from 1953 to 1973. 
there in there mid 70's now
Boy did they change.
My sister still has the jacket

Very cool 442!
I must agree Rob, Van Hager brings the suck! Saw Van Halen in 83, 84 or something around those years, getting old  Then I saw them in 05 and it was quite the letdown

Do you remember the album 1984? I think the song "Hot for Teacher" was the first track on the B side. I'm playing this on tape (remember cassettes?) in my moms car one afternoon as we drive along somewhere.
The song starts up with a drum solo of some sort and I'll never forget my mother turning to me in panic:
Mom: "...What happened to the car! Is it broken!? Is it a flat tire!? What did you hit!?..."
Me: "...No, mom. Its just the song. Give it a few seconds..."
Give it a few years and I'm sure Reed will be doing the same thing to me!
"...No, Dad. Thats just the ion drive kicking in... Don't you know anything! ..."

I'm thinking of putting a 8 track in the 442 (remember 8 tracks ?) Retro They want big bucks for an original one .
